Departure from Haridwar early morning (around 6:00 AM), covering 190 km in 7-8 hours. En route, witness the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers at Devprayag and admire the beautiful views of Rudraprayag. Lunch during transit at a local restaurant (on your own). Arrive at Sari Village by evening, located at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,550 ft). Check-in at a guesthouse/campsite and enjoy a warm vegetarian dinner
Early morning breakfast and prepare for a 3 km trek to Deoriatal Lake (2,400 meters / 8,000 ft), which takes around 1-2 hours. Walk through enchanting rhododendron forests and oak trees with glimpses of Chaukhamba peaks. Spend time at the serene Deoriatal Lake, soaking in the tranquil ambiance and picturesque views. Return to Sari Village by afternoon and rest. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Sari Village.
Post breakfast, start a 10 km trek (6-7 hours) from Deoriatal to Tala Village via Rohini Bugyal. Rohini Bugyal offers stunning meadow landscapes with views of the majestic Himalayan peaks. Descend through dense oak and rhododendron forests to reach Tala Village (2,000 meters / 6,500 ft). A 15 km drive (45 minutes) from Tala Village takes you to Baniyakund (2,600 meters / 8,500 ft). Check-in at a guesthouse/campsite in Baniyakund, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
Early morning departure from Baniyakund to Chopta, just 5 km away (10 minutes by vehicle). Start the 3.5 km trek (approx. 2-3 hours) to Tungnath Temple (3,500 meters / 11,500 ft), the highest Shiva temple in the world. After offering prayers at Tungnath, continue the steep 1.5 km ascent to Chandrashila Peak (3,700 meters / 12,000 ft). Witness a panoramic 360-degree view of the Himalayas, including peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. Spend quality time at the summit before descending back to Chopta, covering a total trek distance of 9-10 km (both sides). Return to Baniyakund by evening, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
Post breakfast, pack your belongings and prepare for the return journey to Haridwar. Enjoy scenic views en route and stop for lunch at a local restaurant (on your own). Cover a distance of 210 km in 7-8 hours. Arrive in Haridwar by evening, concluding the journey with unforgettable memories of the Chopta adventure.
The trek is of moderate difficulty, with gradual ascents and well-defined trails. It is suitable for beginners and occasional trekkers with a reasonable fitness level.
The best time to visit is between April to June for pleasant weather and clear skies. December to February is ideal for snow trekking, offering a winter wonderland experience. Monsoon months (July to September) should be avoided due to slippery trails.
Basic first aid is available during the trek, and the tour leaders carry necessary supplies. However, it is advisable to carry personal medicines. In case of emergencies, the nearest medical facility is in Ukhimath.
?Essential items include warm clothes, trekking shoes, a raincoat, personal medication, a torch, a water bottle, and energy bars. Pack light and avoid carrying heavy luggage.
Mobile connectivity is limited and unreliable in Chopta and during the trek. It is advisable to inform family and friends before starting the trek.
